Welcome back Roots families!

This week, we will be focusing on:

  1. Wooden Structure/Sound
  2. Outdoor Play
  3. Literacy

Wooden Structure/Sound

This week for the wooden structure, we had more pipes and tubes available for the Roots to add and connect together. We also added sand, so they could get a sense of how it flowed prior to adding water. Collectively we dedicated one side of the structure to be for water/sand and one side (with the cardboard pieces) to be used for marbles and other loose parts. We also noticed that the dots have been discovering sound through different parts of the structure as well, whether it’s speaking into the tubes or how different materials sound going down the tubes/pipes.

Outdoor Play

Outside it is a test lab! They are watching closely the flow of water and woodchips. Physics is the main focus. This gives us a prime chance to dig deeper and help them to understand the world around them. We are lucky at Dot To Dot to have a natural playground. They are learning first hand how the natural world works.

The Roots have been consistently showing interest in wanting to spell their names and wanting to learn how to make specific letters. When they practice their names and letters, it gives them a sense of pride and excitement. We have been encouraging them to write by using crab school, artwork, and whiteboards, keeping it fun and exciting.

We will continue to observe and support these continuing interests in the Roots classroom. We cannot wait for our field trips next week and what they have in store for us!

Have a great weekend! ~ Roots family
