Hello! My name is Jasmine Kapono, and I am incredibly passionate about the Reggio Emilia approach to learning. I hold the values of this approach, and those of Dot to Dot, close to my heart, and I feel immense joy and pride as I walk alongside your children, families, and educators in my role as pedagogista.
I have always felt called to work with young children, but over the past few years, that passion has grown deeper than I ever imagined. I believe in living in the moment, appreciating the wonder of nature, and expressing gratitude for its beauty. I am constantly in awe as I observe children explore the world: curious, joyful, and capable, revealing the magic in everyday moments.
Children are powerful, competent individuals, and with love and support, they thrive. Each child’s uniqueness is something to be celebrated. My intention has always been to foster a community that uplifts, accepts, and loves one another. I believe that everything and everyone deserves care, and this belief extends into my deep connection with the natural world. My curiosity is often sparked by the children’s inquiries, especially when we are researching and discovering the living things around us.
Before joining Dot to Dot, I worked in an after-school program where I supported children from TK through 5th grade. It was there that I discovered my strongest connection was with the youngest children. In 2021, I found Dot to Dot and met Mazi. From that very first conversation, I knew this was where I was meant to be.
Over the past four years, I have had the incredible opportunity to be an educator in the Sprouts, Roots, and Stems classrooms. I was privileged to move up with the same group of children, building continuity of care and forming a bond that was both powerful and lasting. It was such a joy to witness their growth, from age two through kindergarten, and to walk that path beside them.
During my final year in the classroom, I began my transition into the pedagogista role. Now, I am honoured to support not only the children but the entire learning community: educators, families, and the school as a whole.
As a pedagogista, I support and collaborate with educators, children, and families, listening closely, reflecting deeply, and helping to bring children’s thinking and learning to light. My role is to uphold and nurture the values of our community while walking alongside others in a shared journey of research, growth, and discovery.
Throughout my time at Dot to Dot, I have sought opportunities to deepen my understanding of the Reggio Emilia approach by learning from other Reggio-inspired schools, attending trainings, reading, and being mentored by atelieristas and pedagogistas, including those from Reggio Emilia, Italy. Their stories and perspectives continue to shape and inspire my work.
Welcome to Dot to Dot, where your children will build beautiful relationships, experience deep connection, and develop a lifelong love of learning. I am so grateful to be on this journey with you.
